RIP Wicket the Cat

Sat Oct 3, 2009, 2:54 AM
Today my heart is heavy because last night I held my little buddy wicket as she was euthanized. Wicket was having health problems the past few months and last night the vet figured out that it was Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) [link] which is a fatal incurable disease. There was only one solution which was to end her suffering :( Wicket was only 5 years old.

My photos of Wicket are the most popular photos in my gallery. She had a personality that demanded attention which made her a great cat model :) I also have many more photos of her that I will post in the future. I am going to miss her so much.

Devious Journal Entry

and facebook page [link]

I work as Environmental scientist for my Native American tribe T'Sou-ke as their environmental manager. For my work I set up scientific studies that research the environments condition in T'Sou-ke Nation traditional territory including water quality testing for pollution in salmon habitat, mapping of endangered species and gathering traditional ecological knowledge on traditional uses of native plants for food and medicine.

My photography is taken on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada. Vancouver Island is the location of both my tribes with my Grandfathers tribe T’Sou-ke with traditional territory around the city of Sooke and my grandmother’s tribe lekwammen that have traditional territory around the Cities of Colwood, Langford and Victoria.

My photography started out from me taking pictures at work for field descriptions and document endangered plants. Being an artist and I wanted more out of the simple point and shoot camera my work provided, so started collecting camera gear to help me get the shots I wanted. I view my photography as a way of showing the natural world around me and bring awareness to these animals, plants and locations, all of which have been sacred to my tribe for countless generations.

My main interests in photography are Nature and Cultural photojournalism.
